"Death by Doctor"

Can You Guess The #3 Killer In America Last Year? No, it's not diabetes... or aids... it's Medical MISTAKES.

(The medical term is "IATROGENIC Death")

Here's the definition...

"The term "IATROGENESIS" refers to adverse effects or complications caused by or resulting from medical treatment or advice. In addition to harmful consequences of actions by physicians, iatrogenesis can also refer to actions by other healthcare professionals, such as psychologists, therapists, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, and others."

How big are the numbers?

The following statistics were published in 2000 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) by Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health

THESE ARE DEATHS PER YEAR:

  • 12,000 deaths due to unnecessary surgery
  • 7,000 deaths due to medication errors in hospitals
  • 20,000 deaths due to other errors in hospitals
  • 80,000 deaths due to infections contracted in hospitals
  • 106,000 deaths due to properly prescribed, negative effects of drugs.

That was in 2000.

Projections show that these numbers now exceed 300,000 per year. To put this into perspective, only 50,000 soldiers were killed during the entire Vietnam war.

Where's the media outcry?

If 603 jumbo jets crashed each year... killing everyone on board, the number would be roughly the same as those who died last year due to medical mistakes. Can you imagine the media fire-storm if that many died in plane crashes!

But this tragedy quietly grinds on... year after year. Why? Could it be that Big Medicine And Big Pharma is just too profitable for this ongoing tragedy to be shut down? Seems to me that our only choice is to opt out of this human "grist mill".

How do you do this?

Decide once and for all that your health is your responsibility. Educate yourself as to what "Healthy" means and what you must do to achieve and maintain it. Formulate your own "health plan". And work that plan every day!

Your health is your responsibility.

In spite of all the campaign talk by all the politicians, this country is too broke to afford universal health care. And decent health insurance for a family of 4 costs $12,000 a year. And although it's ALWAYS been so... now, more than ever, it just makes good sense to do whatever you have to do in order to stay healthy.

Have you ever heard someone say something like this... "My doctor has me on a strict diet." or... "The doctor won't let me do anything since I had a heart attack."

If you hear yourself saying things like this, it's possible that you're subconsciously pushing responsibility for your health off on your doctor. (In case you didn't know... doctors have a higher incidence of diabetes than the national average!)

  • Your doctor won't go blind when you reach the far end of diabetes!
  • Your doctor won't lose his leg when you lose yours!!

Health is normal. Sickness is ABNORMAL!

Every waking hour, the media bombards us with subtle messages that imply that sickness and medical problems are an inevitable part of life. And can only be kept under control by regular visits to the doctor for more prescriptions, more tests and more corrective procedures.

Want proof?

Watch the commercials on the national news! Cancer, heart disease and diabetes are not inevitable... they're lifestyle diseases. They can usually be prevented or corrected by simple changes in your diet and lifestyle, And if you are battling these conditions... you'd be amazed at the bodies' ability to throw these off and cure itself... given the proper nutrients and conditions.

The body was designed as a "health-seeking, health-restoring" organism. It will NATURALLY correct its' own health problems ... IF it's provided with the means to do so.

What's YOUR health plan, prevention... or disease management??

DecideToBeHealthy came about as a result of watching relatively young family members die slowly of cancer and diabetes... all the while passing the responsibility for their health off on Doctors that spent less than a hour a month with them. And I made a solemn oath to myself that I wouldn't let that happen to me. If my family history is any measure... I'm at least 10 years healthier than I should be. And it's because I watch what I eat... I drink plenty of clean water... and I walk several times a week.

I'm self-employed so I don't feel like I can afford health insurance... and people can't seem to understand why I'm so much healthier than my other family members the same age. Second guess EVERY medical decision that effects you and yours. Take the steps to get and stay healthy.
